An environmental police dog was injured Tuesday morning when the cruiser it was sitting in was rear-ended on Interstate 195 in Fairhaven, authorities said.

The environmental police officer was outside of the cruiser and checking on some hunters off the highway near Exit 18 when his parked cruiser was rear-ended by a civilian vehicle around 8:30 a.m.

That driver was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital. The police dog was taken to the veterinarian. The condition of the dog was not immediately known.
