Local educators on Saturday heard from a member of the Chicago Teachers Union that won a new contract last month after a week long strike.  Social Science teacher  Xian Barrett talked about the strike, and  his union's experience with charter schools.

The New Bedford Educators Assocaition says public education is under attack by corporate backed charter schools and other forms of education privatization.  Also at the conference was Jasiela Chaves with Lawrence Community Connections.  State Education officials took over the Lawrence school system about a year ago, and according to Chaves, the community is still waiting to see the benefits.

Attendees of the Saturday conference listened to speakers, attended workshops and discussed their next steps to fight the privatization of public education.
