WAREHAM — Officers were called to an area of Wareham near the Midas Muffler shop at around 8:20 Monday evening on the report of a man armed with a knife. Police were told that he man was threatening another man with the knife.

After arriving, the officers located Edward McKenzie, 30, of East Wareham near a pond. The standoff began when the man refused to show his hands or cooperate when police tried taking to him.

McKenzie finally told the officers that he was going to force them to shoot him. That's when the taser was used to subdue McKenzie.

The suspect was then taken to Tobey Hospital in Wareham for evaluation. A knife was located in a bag near McKenzie.

He is being summoned to Wareham District Court for the charge of assault with a deadly weapon. The person who was threatened was not injured.
