NEW BEDFORD — A Dorchester man was arrested in New Bedford’s South End Monday on drug charges.

Police arrested Christopher Wideman, 54, of 15 Claybourne Street in Dorchester Monday on charges of possession of heroin with intent to distribute, after a small amount of heroin was found on him following a traffic stop.

The New Bedford Police Narcotics Unit was targeting street-level narcotics sales in the city’s South End, when they observed a vehicle driven by Wideman in a traffic infraction in the area of Social Street and Rodney French Boulevard shortly after 11 p.m.

When police stopped the vehicle, further investigation determined that Wideman was in possession of a small amount of heroin. Police also seized $40 in cash.
