The Cranston R.I. public schools have banned the tradition of father/daughter, mother/son dances because, clinch your jaw, a single mom complained to the A.C.L.U. that her daughter could not attend the dance! Thanks to a Republican candidate for the state senate, Sean Gately, this issue was brought to the attention of the media! Even though federal Title IX anti-discrimination law does provide exemption for such events, Rhode Island law does not.
