In Dean Koontz's newest novel, "The City," a piano player tells the story of his childhood from 8 to 10 years of age.

Jonah Kirk was a child prodigy in the late 60s who had jazz in his blood. He's named after all the Big Band greats, and we mean ALL of them! With a name as long as a football field, he's got a lot to live up to.

Dean told us that he has a great future, but also a life filled with tragedy. Koontz said that he is an optimist, and one of the messages of the story is delivered from Jonah's mystical mentor: "It will all turn out all right in the end."
