The UMass Dartmouth Center for Marketing Research 17th Annual Celebrity and Scholarship Dinner will take place on Wednesday, April 26, at the Venus de Milo in Swansea, and will feature a special guest.

According to South Coast Today.com, former Red Sox player David Ortiz will be in attendance at the event.

The event will be sponsored by BayCoast Bank and the family of Frank B. Sousa Jr.

At the dinner, scholarships will be awarded to UMass Dartmouth returning students. To date, the Center for Marketing Research has awarded more than $150,000 to both graduates and undergraduates at the university.

“Any donor of a $1,000 scholarship will take the stage with Ortiz, who retired from the Sox last year after a celebrated career.”

“The event is open to the public. Tickets include a full course dinner at the Venus de Milo and an evening with Ortiz, who will assist in awarding scholarships and speak about his work in baseball, challenges and behind the scenes Red Sox stories. The beloved sports icon, affectionately known as Big Papi, will take questions from the audience.”

Also, a silent auction with signed memorabilia by Ortiz will take place at the event.

Tickets are $150 each, and tables of 10 are available for $1,450. For tickets, scholarship details, program book ads or more information, call or email Ava Lescault at (508) 910-6435 or alescault@umassd.edu. Tickets can also be purchased by credit card at venusdemilo.com.
