Update 10:22am:

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office says two people were found dead in New Bedford.

A spokeswoman for DA Sam Sutter says police found the man and woman in a second floor bathroom in a triple decker home at 598 Brock Ave when they responded to 911 calls at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The deaths are being investigated as a possible murder-suicide.

The victims have been identified as Shariff Goode and Mabilia Maranhao. Goode's aunt says she can't believe the murder-suicide theory.

New Bedford Police, State Police detectives and prosecutors from the District Attorney's Office are investigating. It was the first homicide of the year in New Bedford.

The Bristol County District Attorney's office says law enforcement officials are investigating a double homicide in the city's south end.

In a press release, District Attorney Sam Sutter's office says New Bedford and State Police, along with prosecutors with the DA's office are working the double murder scene at 598 Brock Avenue.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene around 4:30pm Wednesday, and found a male and female dead at that address.

The victims names are not being released at this time.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office will take custody of the deceased and will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.

The investigation is ongoing. We'll have more information as it becomes available.
