Many in Dartmouth are wondering what will happen to John George's seat on the town's Select Board following his conviction on conspiracy and embezzlement charges.

Town Administrator David Cressman says if George chooses to resign they could hold a special election or leave the seat vacant until the end of George's term.

If he chooses not to resign, Cressman says those who want George removed could seek to have a recall election.

"That requires an affidavit signed by at least 2,000 registered voters including 15 from each precint," says Cressman.

Those signatures would then have to be certified by the town clerk's office before further steps would then be taken.

Cressman says the complex is a long one, but that's by design.

"When you have a recall election you're doing it as an unusual situation and you don't want to have someone do it for a frivolous reason."

George will be sentenced on July 15.
