More than 100 Dartmouth residents attended a pep rally of sorts Thursday night in North Dartmouth.

They were urged to write letters to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, hoping to halt a state plan to cap the privately-owned Cecil Smith Landfill in Dartmouth with contaminated soil to be trucked in from the Boston area.

Select Board member John George wants the D-E-P to do some testing at the Smith landfill, before any capping plan is considered.....

Officials are concerned that contaminants from the landfill could pollute underground water supplies years down the road.

The deadline for public comment on the project is Monday, May 13th.
