A New Bedford couple is arrested after leading police on a chase following a traffic stop.

According to police, Detective Shawn Robert was conduncting an investigation into a cocaine delivery service, and had obtained arrest warrants for the pair who were allegedly making cocaine deliveries in their 2012 Dodge Charger.

Narcotics detectives spotted the vehicle Thursday night in the South End, and pulled the car over. The car then fled the scene, leading police on a chase through the South End and into Dartmouth, where the driver lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Matthew and Cone Streets, and struck a tree.

The driver ditched the car and his girlfriend, and fled on foot.

The girlfriend was arrested without incident, and the driver was found with the assistance of Dartmouth Police and neighbors several blocks away.

A search of their Dartmouth Street apartment turned up heroin, cocaine, and marijuana.

The couple, identified as 27-year-old Brandon Vieira and 21-year-old Samantha Goncalves are being arraigned Friday in New Bedford District Court on charges of possession of heroin, cocaine, and marijuana with intent to distribute. Vieira faces additional charges of failure to stop for police and operating to endanger.
