Medical marijuana has been approved by voters in Massachusetts, and New Bedford City Council President Steve Martins wants to begin discussions now on how medical marijuana dispencaries might fit in the Whaling Cty.  Martins presented a motion to the City Council to enact an ordinance on where dispencaries and growing facilities would be located, and what public institutions should be protected.

The motion was sent to the Ordinance Committee last night on an 8-3 vote, but Ward Five Councilor Jane Gonsalves voted "no".  She beleives the action is "premature".....

The state Department of Public Health is currently working on rules and regulations for medical marijuana.
