A new elementary school will soon be coming to the South End of New Bedford.

The City Council approved a loan for the construction of the new William H. Taylor school during their meeting Thursday night.

Ninety percent of the $12.5 million loan will be reimbursed by the Commonwealth as part of the School Building Authority Bond.

Councilor at Large and Chair of the Finance Committee Linda Morad says the city will spread out the remaining balance over the course of several years.

The new Taylor school will be built onto the existing SeaLab Facility in the South End.

The city is aiming to complete the project before the 2016 school year.
