Mass.  Education Commissioner Mitchell Chester says Supt. Dr. Pia Durkin will be the turnaround operator for the John A. Parker school in New Bedford.

Earlier this year, Parker School was declared chronically under-performing by the state, and has been designated a "level 5" school.

In a conference call with reporters, Commissioner Chester praised Dr. Durkin's work with school reforms  in Attleboro.

The Commissioner had selected non profit organizations as turnaround operators for three other level five schools in the commonwealth.

Chester is currently formulating turnaround plans for level five schools, including Parker.  Those plans will be announced sometime next month.
