(Associated Press) - The Coast Guard is suspending the search for survivors of the sunken ship El Faro.

Coast Guard Captain Mark Fedor said they will halt the search at sunset tonight.

Fedor said he hopes the families of the victims take a small measure of solace knowing that the search was exhaustive.

The cargo vessel lost propulsion and sank while sailing from Jacksonville, Florida to Puerto Rico last week when it got caught in Hurricane Joaquin

Searchers found one body in a survival suit and a badly-damaged lifeboat, but no survivors. There were 28 Americans on board, including two graduates from the Mass. Maritime Acadamy.

The NTSB is leading the investigation into how the ship sank and what decisions the captain made before setting sail. The El Faro is roughly the size of two football fields.
