Coast Guard Searching For Missing Diver

The Coast Guard is searching for a 64-year-old man who didn't return from a dive near the wreck of the Andrea Doria oceanliner about 60 nautical miles southeast of Nantucket.

The Coast Guard said Wednesday its air and sea search for the man has covered more than 159 square nautical miles since he was reported missing Tuesday afternoon.

The crew of the commercial diving boat John Jack notified the Coast Guard at about 1 p.m. Another diver said he was with the man at their 20-foot decompression stop, but didn't see him on the surface.

The Andrea Doria wreck rests in 240 feet of water. The Italian luxury vessel sank in 1956 after a collision.

The Coast Guard says seven people have died while diving in the area since 2005.  (Associated Press)
