The amazing story of a shipwrecked Japanese boy and a Fairhaven Sea Captain in the 1800s was celebrated on the SouthCoast with an event every spring. The Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival on Sunday, May 5 from 11 to 4 at the site of the Whitfield-Manjiro Museum on Cherry St. in Fairhaven. Gerry Rooney, President of the Whitfield-Manjiro Friendship Society joined Jim Phillips this week to discuss the festival, and the Society's impact both here and in Japan.
