Several speakers discussed the future of charter schools during a forum held Friday at the UMass School of Law in Dartmouth.

Professor Preston Greene of the University of Connecticut was one of the presenters.

He cautioned parents to make sure a charter school is a good fit for their child....

Other speakers included attorney Michael Keating who favors lifting the cap on charter schools in Massachusetts. Keating says he supports charter schools mainly because of the autonomy they have to make changes quickly, and because discipline is superior to the public schools.

Taunton Senator Mark Pacheco says he wants to keep the cap on charter schools in place, at least for the time being. Senator Pacheco says Massachusetts can't afford any more charter schools right now.
