Carjacking Suspect Held On $50,000 Bail

A carjacking suspect has been arraigned on a number of charges in New Bedford District Court on Monday.  

26-year-old Juan Joel Rivera of New Bedford was held on $50,000 bail following his arraignment on charges of armed carjacking, armed robbery, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

Rivera is accused of stealing a Dartmouth woman's car and other belongings outside of St. Luke's Hospital last week.  Police say Rivera was armed with a kitchen knife.  Rivera was arrested Friday after the stolen vehicle was spotted. 

Rivera's case has been continued until November first for a probable cause hearing.
