Republican incumbent U.S. Sen. Scott Brown and his Democratic rival Elizabeth Warren have sparred on everything from tax policy to her claims of Native American heritage during their first debate in Massachusetts' closely watched Senate race. Brown said Thursday night Warren 'checked the box claiming she is Native American and clearly she is not.'' Warren, a Harvard Law School professor, said she was told by her parents that her mother was part Cherokee and part Delaware. Warren shot back saying Brown has sided with big oil companies and held tax cuts for the middle class hostage to tax cuts for millionaires.

Brown said it's clear Warren is the only one of the two who'd vote for tax increases. Warren said voting for Brown could hand control of the Senate to Republicans and she supports President Barack Obama. Brown has said he supports Mitt Romney.
