What is a town supposed to do with two vacant schools that are both over 100 years old?

That is the question the Fairhaven Board of Selectmen continued to address Tuesday night. The Board has been discussing what to do with the Rogers and Oxford schools for months, but are finally beginning to move the process along.

Selectman Geoff Haworth says Tuesday's meeting really got the wheels turning.

The Board agreed to follow a request for proposal (RFP) process where it will entertain all types of bids for the properties.

They also approved the appraisal for both schools within the next 30 days at a cost of $3,000.

The next major step for the sale process will come at a special fall Town Meeting later this year. That meeting will ask the town to approve funds for advertising the RFP and for surveying the properties and also to transfer the deed to the schools from the School Department to the Board of Selectmen.
