Apponequet, Bishop Stang and Millis-Hopedale All Winners — Southcoast Football Scores: Week 1

sameold2010,flickr

Apponequet was expected to be one of the Southcoast’s dominant high school football teams going into the season, and they didn’t disappoint in their opener, trouncing Fairhaven 45-0.
The Lakers proved that they will be in the hunt for the South Coast Conference crown, but they can solidify that position this coming Saturday if they can knock off Dighton-Rehoboth in Apponequet’s home opener.
Westin Cohen (160 yards on five carries) and Peter Loranger each scored two touchdowns against Fairhaven. Matt Michael, Troy Nanfelt and Cam Costa each added a score as well.
Kevin Albano led the Blue Devils with 31 yards on nine carries.

In other action:

Bishop Stang already matched their win total from a season ago with a 28-6 victory over visiting Wareham Friday night. Quarterback Matt Golden rushed for 73 yards on 11 carries, including a 49-yard touchdown run on a keeper. Owen Braley led Wareham with 27 yards on five rushes, and Nathan Moore’s 65-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter was the Vikings’ only score as they look to institute a new single-wing offense.

GNB Voc-Tech started strong with a 45-yard touchdown pass from Nick Richard to Jacob Tavares, but then couldn’t hold off a powerful Millis-Hopedale team and fell 33-6.

Quarterback Nolan Bergeron rushed for 104 yards on 13 carries—including a 1-yard touchdown run and a 66-yard scoring scamper—and also completed three of his eight pass attempts for 46 yards as Old Rochester held off Lee, 21-7, on Saturday.

Jake Pringle threw three touchdown passes, but it wasn’t enough as Old Colony lost 26-18 to Diman Voke.
