City Council at Large candidate Ian Abreu placed fifth during the New Bedford preliminary election. The fifth seat is open as Councillor David Alves has decided not to seek re-election.

Speaking on "The Taylor Cormier Show," Abreu says he'd like to see City services streamlined, specifically merging EMS services with the City's Fire Department. "I think it'll help save jobs. It'll consolidate some departments. And we'll be able to kind of strategically look at how we can close maybe some stations and reopen new stations that are more strategically placed," said Abreu.

Abreu says the City may not be able to rely on a capital improvement plan to restore or renovate the aging fire stations, and would be interested in exploring other avenues.

Abreu is one of ten candidates seeking a Council at Large seat. The election is Tuesday, November 3.
