Wareham’s New Dog Park Hydrant Mascot Finally Has a Name and It’s Adorable

After careful consideration, judges have picked an official name for the Wareham Dog Park mascot: Meet Wayne the Hydrant.

Thanks to the Department of Natural Resources, the Wareham Fire Department and the Dog Park Affiliation of Wareham (DPAW) judge panelists, 10-year-old Rylee O’Cleary thought "Wayne" should be the hydrant’s name “because if dogs are hot, he can ‘Wayne’ on them.”

"We think it’s a mutual relationship," DPAW community outreach and marketing board member Sally Morrison said. "Rylee’s score was higher than all the age groups’ entries, earning Best in Show."

Winners from each age group were 7-year-old James Johnson, 11-year-old Juliette Noe and 13-year-old Quin Demello. They received gift certificates and  Ryleee also earned naming rights.

"The Department of Natural Resources/Wareham Animal Control, Wareham Fire Department, and Dog Park Affiliation of Wareham loved all the clever and sweet entries," Morrison said, "Thanks to Buttonwood Park Zoo, Gone Country Creamery, and Marc Anthony’s Pizzeria for prizes for our creative winners."
