SEEKONK — A Seekonk woman is dead after being struck by a car that fled the scene Thursday night.

Seekonk Police say at approximately 6:54 p.m., several  911 calls were made reporting a pedestrian struck on Newman Avenue (Rt. 152).

Dispatchers were informed that a person had been struck and that the suspected vehicle had fled the scene, continuing northbound. Seekonk Police, along with Seekonk Fire & Rescue, arrived a short time later. At the scene, a 37-year-old woman was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Responding officers quickly gathered information and were able to identify the striking vehicle as a light-colored SUV, possibly a Jeep Grand Cherokee, between the years of 1999-2004. The vehicle should have front passenger side damage.

This Department is asking for the public's help in identifying who is responsible for the fatal crash. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Seekonk Police Department immediately.

Detectives from the Seekonk Police Department in conjunction with Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office continue to investigate the incident.
