SOMERSET — A woman is dead following a crash involving a Somerset Police cruiser.

Massachusetts State Police say a Somerset Police officer responding to an emergency call at around 1 a.m. on Friday on Route 138 crashed head-on with another vehicle at the intersection of Westhill Road and Riverside Road.

The officer and the driver of the other vehicle were both transported to a local hospital, where the female driver of the civilian vehicle later died. The officer's condition is unknown at this time.

The woman's identity is being withheld until notification of next of kin.

The crash heavily damaged the vehicles and a utility pole. National Grid workers are repairing the pole.

Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office are investigating the crash.
