WAREHAM — Wareham Police arrest a couple for stealing from a local store for clothing to wear to a court appearance the next day.

On Tuesday at about 10 p.m, officers were dispatched to Walmart for a shoplifting incident in progress.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Heather Murphy, 25, of no certain address, and Jason Willoughby, 33, of Wareham, leaving the store. When confronted, Murphy opened a handbag and began handing back clothes that she attempted to steal. She advised the officers that the clothes were needed for a court appearance on Wednesday.

Officers also found Willoughby to have shoes stuffed in his pants at the waistline and other stolen items were located in their car.

The couple was placed under arrest, pending an appearance in Wareham District Court on Wednesday. Both are charged with shoplifting. It is Willoughby's third shoplifting offense.
