Despite the cold winter, City Councilors say there is still a problem with prostitution on city streets, and that problem is only going to get worse as the weather warms up.

Councilor Steve Martins co-authored a motion filed during Thursday's Committee on Public Safety meeting asking the police department what's going to be done to address the city's prostitution issue.

The Ward Two Councilor says he's satisfied with what he heard from Deputy Police Chief David Lizotte.

Lizotte told the Council the police department is actively working to crack down on prostitution and other low level street crimes and will report back to the Council in a month.

Lizotte says prostitution was such a large problem last year due to many of the department's resources going toward the rising issues of heroin overdoses.

A sting operation has already been conducted this year in January yielding four arrests.
