Surveillance cameras will soon be installed at New Bedford's Harrington Park.

New Bedford residents and visitors are under surveillance at other public places as well.

Speaking on his weekly radio program, Mayor Jon Mitchell says there are cameras placed in Buttonwood Park, Custom House Square, Riverside Park, and other key places throughout the city. "The police have them in very targeted places in the city where they can monitor them well and also have a feel for what's going on in the neighborhood," said Mayor Mitchell.

Mitchell objected to the idea of installing cameras at every public park in the city, saying it would be costly and time consuming to monitor.
