Happy Wet Nose Wednesday! Another week, another beautiful animal to spotlight.

Hundreds of animals on the SouthCoast are living in shelters just waiting to find their forever homes. With the help of local shelters, we share their stories each week as we aim to get as many animals adopted as possible.

This week, we head to Fall River where a loveable shepherd mix is waiting to bring happiness to the perfect family.

Meet Athena, who resides at Forever Paws Animal Shelter in Fall River. She is 7 but young at heart.

"Despite her age, she's a spitfire of sassy energy and hasn't let anything slow her down," the shelter said.

Athena is great with other dogs, but the shelter recommends a forever family with a cat-free home, and children should be 12 years of age or older.

She is a well-behaved dog but will need some assistance with house training.

"As dignified and well-behaved as she usually is, there's something deep and wild about Athena like she's more in tune with her ancestors than other dogs are," the shelter said. "There's an intelligence in her eyes that you would have to see in person to understand."

Athena is silly and she absolutely loves her toys. She is incredibly loyal and will be your best friend for life if you allow her to be.

Does Athena sound like a good fit for you and your family? Contact Forever Paws Animal Shelter, like the shelter on Facebook and schedule a play date today.

Athena cannot wait to meet you.
