Westport’s Schmid Holds Off Challenge From Gendreau for Second Straight Election
For the second straight election, Westport Democrat State Representative Paul Schmid defeated Republican challenger Evan Gendreau in Massachusetts' 8th Bristol District.
Schmid will now serve another two-year term. He has been in office since 2011, and serves on the numerous committees, including the influential House Ways and Means Committee and the Ways and Means Joint Committee.
Gendreau, also of Westport, previously fell to Schmid in 2020 by just under 3,000 votes, losing 57 percent to 42.9 percent. He performed better this time around, garnering 47 percent of the vote.
In other races, Democrat Pat Haddad was re-elected over Republican challenger Justin Thurber in the 5th Bristol District.
In the 10th Bristol District, Democrat incumbent Bill Straus defeated Republican challenger Dr. Jeffrey Swift.
In the 9th Bristol District, Democrat Rep. Chris Markey was re-elected. He had no opposition in the general election after defeating upstart Cameron Costa in the September primary.
Rep. Chris Hendricks faced no competition in the 11th Bristol District in either the general election or the primary.
