Weis Stepping Down from Health Department

Dr. Brenda Weis, Director of the Health Department for the City of New Bedford, is stepping down from her position, WBSM News has learned.

Sources tell WBSM News that Weis will relinquish her position sometime in the next two weeks.

Mayor Jon Mitchell issued the following statement to WBSM News regarding Weis' resignation:

"Dr. Weis has informed me of her decision to step down from her position as director of the New Bedford Health Department to pursue other career opportunities. I appreciate her service to the City of New Bedford and her efforts to improve the overall health and wellness of our residents. I wish her well, and I look forward to working with Board of Health members to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership in the department."

There is no word on who might replace Weis at this time.
