Wareham Woman Found Dead After Police Help Man in Canoe
Update: On Friday, a man was arrested and charged with murder in connection with this case.
Massachusetts State Police detectives and the Wareham Police Department are investigating after a distressed man in a canoe called 911 and a woman was subsequently found dead in a Rose Point home.
According to the office of Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz, on Friday at approximately 8:15 a.m., Wareham police received a 911 call for a man in distress in a canoe in a waterway near Marion Road. First responders located the 54-year-old man and he was transported to Tobey Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.
Subsequently, police received information of a death at 3 Woodbridge Ave. in Wareham. Police found a 57-year-old woman unresponsive inside the residence. She was declared dead by emergency medical personnel.
Wareham police contacted state police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney and an investigation was launched. The investigation is active and ongoing, and police say they do not believe it was a random act of violence.
Authorities did not explain the connection, if any, between the man in the canoe and the deceased woman, and did not disclose details about the canoeist's injuries or the waterway in which he was located.
