Want Snow? Experts Break Down Winter Weather on the SouthCoast

Now that Halloween has come and gone, the focus is definitely on the holidays.

Christmas decorations have started popping up around the SouthCoast, holiday ads are all over TV and thoughts of whether or not we'll see a magical 'White Christmas' start to fill people's minds.

So what are the experts thinking about the upcoming winter? When should we expect to see snow on the SouthCoast this season, if we see it at all.

Year after year the folks with the Farmer's Almanac use their secret method for long range weather predictions.

Though how accurate those predictions are if definitely questionable.

In fact, late in August when the Farmer's Almanac released their data for October and beyond, things weren't exactly what we got.

So far their call for a "colder than average" fall and a potential "rain out for Halloween" have totally missed the mark. Things have been so sunny and warm, we set records for heat twice last month.

Does that mean their winter weather forecast will be opposite as well?

Because for the next season hitting the SouthCoast, things are predicted to be warmer than average, with more rain/sleet than snow days.

Should we decide to listen to the Farmer's Almanac for the end of the year weather, here's what they have to say.

Southern New England 2024-2025 Winter Weather Predictions

The SouthCoast and beyond are expected to have a warmer than average winter for 2024-2025, with a lot more rain days than snow days sadly.

The Almanac pointed out that the La Niña would be cooling the ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean, which would likely cause a “wet winter whirlwind” throughout the season.

This means lots of stormy weather for the whole Northeast, leading to plenty of sleet and rain on the SouthCoast and lots of fresh powder for skiers up north.

It doesn't mean we won't get any snow days along the coast. The Almanac specifically mentions the last week of January into the beginning of February bringing frigid air from the Great Lakes that could result in a serious snow storm.

The say the best chance of snow we have on the SouthCoast is between January 20-23 and January 24-27, so plan any ski trips accordingly.
