We have not heard if closings will include the one in Fairhaven and the one in North Dartmouth, but we will keep our fingers crossed and hope that both stay in business. Hopefully, our Fairhaven and North Dartmouth locations are not affected by the several closures announced by this giant department store chain.

According to WHDH 7, Walmart is closing 269 stores, and more than half of them are located in the United States.

There are about 11,000 stores nationwide and those stores that are closing account for less than one percent of its global revenue.

“More than 95 percent of the stores set to be closed in the United States are within 10 miles of another Walmart.” The corporation, based out of Bentonville, Arkansas, states that it is working to ensure that workers are placed in nearby locations if their store shuts down.

Closures will start at the end of this month.

Out of the 154 closures in the United States, 102 of them will include the companies smallest-format stores called Walmart Express, which opened as a test in 2011.
