Connecticut running back Joe Williams has been charged with larceny and suspended indefinitely from the football team.

The school announced the suspension Monday evening and said it would have no further comment.

UConn police say Williams was charged on Aug. 9 with larceny, theft of a credit card, and illegal use of a credit card.

He did not immediately return an email seeking comment Tuesday.

According to the police report, the arrest stemmed from an investigation into the theft of a $60 and a credit card from a wallet in April. Police say the card was used to purchase an item that was shipped to Williams' home in Pennsylvania.

Williams, a sophomore, was expected to see playing time this fall as a backup to starting tailback Lyle McCombs.
