U.S. Transfers Guantanamo Prisoner To Kuwait
. American officials say a Kuwaiti national who's been jailed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for more than a decade without ever being charged "does not pose a significant threat to the United States."
The Defense Department announced today that Fouzi Khalid Abdullah Al Awda is now in the hands of the government of Kuwait. Al Awda becomes the third inmate transferred out of Gitmo this year, but the first since the controversial swap of Taliban prisoners for American soldier Bowe Bergdahl.
Al Awda had been accused by U.S. officials of being a member of al-Qaeda and an associate of Osama bin Laden. {Metro Networks Inc.)
