Two Taunton Police Officers Hit by Car
Two Taunton police officers remain seriously injured after they were struck by a vehicle while investigating a separate crash.
The officers responded to a motor vehicle accident Friday around 6 p.m. at Route 140 and Taunton Depot Drive and were conducting an on-scene investigation when the driver of a Volkswagen Beetle drove through the crash scene and struck the officers, according to Taunton Police Chief Edward Walsh.
The officers were treated at the scene by other first responders. One officer was transported to a local hospital and the other was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital. Walsh said their injuries were considered serious but not believed to be life-threatening.
The names of the officers were not released. Walsh said their injuries are believed to be serious, but not life-threatening. The driver of the Volkwagon stopped following the crash and cooperated with the police investigation.
