Two Men Headed To Jail For Setting Arson Fires

Two Massachusetts men have been sentenced in some of a string of fires set south of Boston in 2012 and 2013.

    Prosecutors, fire officials, and property owners said the Brockton Superior Court judge's sentence Friday after plea deals with the men was too lenient.

    Forty-six-year-old Mark Sargent of Middleborough pleaded guilty to setting two fires, in Marshfield and Scituate, in December 2012, and one in January 2013 in West Bridgewater. He was sentenced to two to three years in state prison, with three years' probation.

    His 24-year-old stepson Jeanmarie Louis pleaded guilty in the West Bridgewater fire. He was sentenced to two-and-a-half years, with one year to serve and the rest suspended during three years' probation.              

    No one has been charged in more than 20 other fires, most in unoccupied buildings. No one was seriously injured.  (Associated Press)
