New Bedford Police arrested two men and seized over $200,000 worth of cocaine.

Lt. Amos Melo said that officers with the New Bedford Narcotics Division made a vehicle stop at 10:26 a.m. Thursday near Route 18 and Cove St. following an investigation into cocaine distribution.

During the stop the detectives searched the vehicle and found two kilos of cocaine and a small amount of cash.

The two men in the car, 39-year-old Ramon Alvarez Melendez and 34-year-old Jose Gomez, both of New Bedford, were arrested on charges of trafficking in cocaine over 1,000 grams and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

The two suspects were scheduled to be arraigned in Third District Court on Friday.
