Two cowboys in Arizona are being credited with coming to the rescue of a deer that was stuck in an Arizona canal.

Last Thursday, the state Game and Fish Department received several calls of a deer that was trapped in a canal near Lake Pleasant, northwest of Phoenix.

The animal apparently slipped into the lake and could not climb the canal's steep, concrete walls to get out.

According to CBS News, officers arrived at the Central Arizona Project canal, only to find two cowboys that appeared out of nowhere and threw out their ropes to save the deer.

After being rescued, Game and Fish officers carried the cold, shivering animal out of the water and loaded it into a truck. The deer was then taken to Lake Pleasant Regional Park and released.

Below is a video that the Arizona Game and Fish agency posted on YouTube which shows one man standing on a bridge above the canal and dropping a lasso around the deer’s antlers as it swims to shore.
