Donald Trump is demanding a halt to Muslims entering the U.S. In a statement from his campaign, Trump calls for a, quote, "total and complete shutdown" of Muslims coming into the country until leaders in Washington can act.

Trump said a number of Muslims have a "hatred" of America and that officials have to learn more about where that is coming from.

He adds that the country can't continue to be victim to "horrendous attacks" by those who "believe only in Jihad."

Meantime, Trump's presidential rivals are pushing back against his demands that the U.S. stop letting Muslims into the country. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie calls it a "ridiculous position," while former Florida governor Jeb Bush says Trump's "unhinged." Bush added that his proposals aren't serious.

The White House is also blasting Trump's proposal. CNN reports that White House Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes said the idea is "totally contrary to our values."  (Metro Networks Inc.)
