The Mattapoisett board of health is closing town-owned properties from dusk to dawn after 10 mosquito samples from the community tested positive for eastern equine encephalitis. Most of the samples consist of bird-biting mosquitoes, but some contained insects that bite people. The samples were all collected on September 5, and are the first with EEE to be reported out of Mattapoisett this year.

Based on the samples, the state has raised the threat of EEE in the town to high. Board of health agent Dale Barrows says in line with the curfew, evening sports activities will be rescheduled, along with any evening events on town property.
