New Mass. State Treasurer Deb Goldberg was in New Bedford Thursday, reading to second graders at the DeValles School and speaking with them about financial decisions.

Goldberg is visiting schools across the state talking to students about how the decisions they make today can impact their lives in the future.

Goldberg says "when kids have a dollar in their pocket they often think about bubblegum and cupcakes, when you really need to think about is saving a nickle or a dime."

The Treasurer told the DeValles students, its all about paying yourself first.

Goldberg has created an Office of Economic Empowerment to work with young people and adults on issues like financial literacy, college affordability, and wage equality.
