Traffic Lights Coming to Dangerous Dartmouth Intersection
DARTMOUTH — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is set to begin work on an intersection in Dartmouth next week, installing traffic lights and other significant upgrades.
MassDOT says work on the intersection of Old Westport Road and Chase Road is estimated to begin on Monday, December 3rd.
According to MassDOT's website, the project will address a number of issues at the intersection by installing traffic signals at each point of entry to the intersection, as well as new sidewalks and realignment of pavement markings to provide bicycle accommodating paved shoulders.
In a release, MassDOT says the construction will be performed Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting. One lane of travel will be maintained at all times with a police officer on site to direct traffic. A detour will be in place once full depth construction begins, and the Town of Dartmouth will receive notice two weeks prior to the start of full depth construction.
MassDOT estimates the project to be completed by August 24, 2019.
