ROCHESTER - A truck driver has suffered serious injuries after crashing and rolling over into a pond in Rochester.

The Rochester Fire Department says at 6:46 a.m., a tractor trailer crashed on the Hiller Street Bridge and rolled over into the water.

The driver was trapped inside the partially submerged cab for 40 minutes. The Rochester Fire Department was able to extricate the driver, who was transported to a pre-designated landing zone where a Boston Medflight helicopter was waiting to transport him to Rhode Island Hospital.

The driver sustained serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Police say that section of Mary's Pond Road will remain closed for the majority of the day with utility service interruptions as repairs are made.
