The New Bedford Health Department issued fines to three local businesses for failure to comply with the City’s COVID-19 regulations, the Office of Mayor Jon Mitchell announced today.

El Caribe Restaurant at 884 Brock Avenue, Expo’s Convenience Store at 309 Dartmouth Street, and Crown Fried Chicken at 1570 Acushnet Avenue were cited for failure of employees to wear masks.

El Caribe was fined $100. Expo's was fined $200, and Crown Fried Chicken was fined $200, according to a media release.

Violation orders were issued last week after inspections by the New Bedford Health Department.

Earlier this year, Mitchell and the Board of Health announced emergency orders designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in workplaces. The orders also outlined reporting requirements.

Businesses will be subject to fines for failure to comply with the City’s orders, including failure to protect employees and failure to notify the Health Department of an outbreak, the mayor's office said. The orders are posted on the City's website.

Earlier this month, the City fined six New Bedford restaurants for their failure to comply with COVID regulations.
