NEW BEDFORD — Six New Bedford restaurants and bars have been fined by the city health department for failure to comply with city COVID-19 regulations.

The City of New Bedford announced the fines in a press release this afternoon.

Hong Kong Restaurant, located at 2899 Acushnet Avenue, Whiskey Lounge at 1669 Acushnet Avenue, and The Bar, located at 266 Dartmouth Street, were each fined $300 for serving alcoholic beverages without food, and for employees failing to wear masks.

Mikey B’s Restaurant, located at 989 Victoria Street, and Taqueria La Raza at 1408 Acushnet Avenue, were each fined $100 for employees failing to wear masks.

Casa Benfica, located at 1484 Acushnet Avenue, was fined $100 for serving alcoholic beverages without food.

According to the release, “violation orders were issued on October 14 after inspections by the New Bedford Police Department and the New Bedford Health Department.”

The violations were of emergency orders put in place by Mayor Jon Mitchell and the New Bedford Board of Health earlier this year to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
