News from Vatican City, the new pope who was chosen is Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio from Argentina, a surprise pick from the Cardinals.

White smoke rose from the Sistine Chapel early Wednesday afternoon, and people waited just over an hour for the new pope to make his first appearance. When Pope Francis came out, he was greeted by a roaring crowd. The first thing he did was say a prayer for Bishop Emeritus, former Pope Benedict. After that he lead the crowd with an 'Our Father' - the Lords prayer.

Cardinal Bergoglio was an unexpected pick by the Cardinals, because many thought they would pick a younger man to take over as pope. Pope Francis takes over as the new pope at the age of 76.
