TAUNTON - A Taunton store owner was shot during an attempted robbery Wednesday night.

Police say the robbery attempt took place at Eagan's Package Store on Cohannet Street in downtown Taunton, when two men wearing masks and hoodies, one of them armed with a shotgun, held up the store around 8:30 p.m. last night.

The clerk, who owns the store with her husband, refused to hand over any money, and a fight broke out. Police say the victim was shot after she tried grabbing the shotgun during the struggle.

The suspects fled the scene. They have since been arrested by Taunton Police. They're identified only as 18 and 17-year-old males.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and is in serious but stable condition.
